Well I certainly Didn't Feel I Deserved This...
The door creaked open and in stepped Artemis, stunned. "Well that was quick sweetie." She stepped carefully to avoid any broken glass. "We need to go now, you are not safe here. We have people to meet at the airport. We must leave." She took a hold of my shoulders and hugged me, like a real mother would. My mother before never did this. I wished desperately to know who my real mother was. I wanted to hug her and have a real mother.
I smiled and nodded, I finally felt this was the start of my life. "Wait! What about the cat?" "Oh! I forgot, the school does need a principal." She snapped her fingers and the cat, who apparently sat at the desk appeared sitting and smiling. "Good job Millie, I am proud to have had you as my student. Be safe." She told her, looking at her. She surveyed the damage. "I have much work ahead of me." She bowed her head at Artemis. "Please stay safe and keep me updated, Lady Artemis." "I shall my dear." Artemis smiled. "Goodbye." And we walked out of the office.
On our way to the airport, the car was silent. I didn't really have much to say and she didn't either. When we got there, there were two men. Well built, clean shaved, tall muscular men who looked as if they were waiting for us.
"I see you have the girl, and in one piece I would hope?" said the blond man. "Apollo, you REALLY think I would... Never mind. It's not time yet. When does the plane leave?" Artemis questioned looking at her cell phone's clock. "When you want it to, we came on private plane. Faster and more safe." Said the other man. "I hope your right Ares, or you'll be swimming in your grave. Let's get moving,, I want to be in London sooner rather than later." Artemis responded. She then turned to me, "Follow me, and if you see ANYTHING suspicious you feel in your gut isn't right you tell one of us. Come along." I followed quietly, I wasn't too frightened but it was nerve wrecking not knowing what exactly was going on. Then again, when things weren't told to me, I tended to be a worry wart.
I stepped onto the private jet. I had never been on one before and when I stepped in, I was very surprised. Never had I seen a plane this extravagant or big before. The plane seats were like couches, big and fluffy. There was a kitchen, a kitchen! And a big flat screen tv. I stopped and gasped. This had to have been the best plane I have ever been in. I must have stood there for too long because I heard one of the guys say "Come on already, we've not got all day!" I quickly ran in and set my back pack down on the couch. "This is private jet?!" I exclaimed, "You can't be serious we are riding in this?! It's amazing, no no no it's beyond amazing it's..." I whispered, "Awesomesauce." Artemis looked at me, "You're such a dork." She laughed. "Yes, we are riding in this. The council has taken a very special interest in your safety so they allowed us the use of one of their private planes. You can eat whatever you want, ask Bill our chef to cook you it. We have cable, and if you need to sleep, let me know and I will escort you to your room. " She smiled. "I hope you enjoy the longride." I smiled and called for Bill. "Do you have steak?" He nodded and smiled, "We do!" "Could I have that with a side of mashed potatos and bread, oh! And can I have Dr. Pepper?" "Yes, Madame." He bowed and walked away. "You really don't skimp do you?" Ares asked me with a raised eyebrow. "No I love meat." He looked at Artemis. "Okay, very well then. Hope it takes alright." He smiled at me and continued to read his book.
My dinner was the best steak I had ever had in my life. It was juicy and delicious! I wish I could have it every day for the rest of my life that was just how good it was. Anyways, after I ate I decided that I would watch some tv since I rarely got to back at my old home. The nanny thought that the tv would only make me unruly, of course she blamed the tv and not my parents parenting skills right? I decided that I would watch a cartoon. It was very cute and by the end of one episode I was tired and decided that I was ready for bed. Artemis showed me to my room and I climbed into the big fluffy bed and fell right asleep.
I was woken up at about seven in the morning when we landed. I was still so tired, I had the strangest dreams. I always have strange dreams, but these were the strangest I have ever had- ever. I knew it meant something but my gut told me it wasn't the time to bring this up. I would know when, if at all, they are supposed to be. So I kept quiet. They two big men escorted Artemis and I to the car that was to take us wherever we were going.
As I rode in the car, I realized that London was not what I had imagined. I had imagined this beautiful, big city like Paris but what I saw was just like any big city. It wasn't like New York, not that type of city, just a city. There wasn't anything to special about it except for the palaces, but that was it. As we drove, the rain beat down on the front window. It was pouring, a great way to tell me I would never be the same. It was a saddening feeling. I knew I was never going to be the same. I knew things have changed, I would never see the few friends I had again, it took me a long time to make the one friend I had. I had a gut feeling that even that was set up. He was probably some sort of way for them to spy, he was probably paid to watch me and keep me protected. I sighed, the only thing I hated other than being uprooted completely, losing everything, was the fact that everyone I ever knew was lying to me. Everything that I knew, everything that happened to me in life up till now was a lie. I was angry and hurt, I felt so betrayed. I wanted to scream in anger but I knew I shouldn't. I knew it was all for "the best", I just wish that the best didn't involve betraying me.
Soon, we arrived at an old Victorian mansion. We parked and I got out, it was the best building I had seen since we landed. It was beautiful. I closed the door and stood, just staring at the building. It was bigger than anything I could ever see in the united states, at least I thought right?
As I stood, gaping at the splendor before me, Artemis came to me and snapped me out of it. "Listen sweetie, there's somethings you need to know before entering this building... One, you must be on your best behavior— no touching anything, no interrupting, use yes sir, no sir, don't be a smart ass, that sort of thing. Basically, act as if you are meeting the Queen herself, because you are meeting people who are much more powerful than the Majesty herself. Second, you are going to see things and hear of things that might, well will, surprise you. Do not be alarmed, well at least don't freak out ok? You want them to think well of you. AND lastly, whatever you do, do not, under ANY circumstances take ANY flowers from any little girls in the building. We can't have you under a trance before we start any business. Her name is Tracey, she is a nymph and the daughter of one of the goddesses here but she loves to play tricks, she's about seven years old and well, we've been trying to teach her she can't pay her tricks here but you know little kids. Maybe you can help, but just don't take the flowers alright?" She smiled and patted my back. "You'll be fine, just remember what I said. Let's head in, shall we?" she looked over to Ares and Apollo and nodded. I followed the three of them through two big wooden doors.
The building on the outside looked old and almost worn down, as if to make sure unsuspecting people didn't wander in unannounced but inside? Inside looked like a Greek temple, like one that had just been made yesterday. It was extravagant, everything made in marble. There was no electricity, the lights were flame, and the rooms smelled like rose petals. I saw two men walking out of one room, each wearing a toga and carrying rolls of parchment. They took no notice of use as they walked past... both on two goat legs. Yes I said it, two goat legs. Artemis looked at me and put her finger to her lips to silence me. She whispered "You'll know soon, no questions till then." And we continued walking. They weren't the only mythical creatures I saw, I also nymphs whose skin was green and hair made of leaves (must of been a wood nymph, yes I have read up on my mythology), faeries whose wings were made of pure colored light and looked remarkably human, other faeries who were so tiny that you could only see a spark of colored light, and a few manly centaurs roaming the halls. The building was huge, it was as if the build was bigger on the inside but smaller on the inside, kind of like that one British Sci-fi tv show with the blue box? Anyways, we walked for a walked for a while, then up a flight of stairs till we came to a hallway and at the end of this hallway sat two huge wooden doors and a few chairs outside of it like they were placed there for visitors waiting. When we approached the door, artemis told me to be patient and wait in one of the chairs till someone came out for me. So I did as I was told.
The chair wasn't at all comfy, although for my poor back's sake I wished it was. I sat bored out of my mind till I heard a little hum, a little girl's hum. She was humming some song from a Disney movie (which one I honestly couldn't tell). Soon she was in my eyesight, a little girl with like green skin, dark green leaf-like hair braided, she was wearing a pink toga and sandles (this must've been some sort of dress code). She skipped towards me humming and holding a flower. Oh dear lord, I thought, this is Tracey. She stopped abruptly in front of me and smiled.
"Hi, I am Tracey!" "Hi Tracey, I have heard of you and your flowers. My name is Millie, nice to meet you!" She sighed, "I know, I know. Mama said don't give you the flowers, if I make you sleepy, the work can't be done." She smiled, then frowned. "You have a funny accent, where are you from?" "I am American, from the United States." I smiled back. She smiled giddily and jumped onto the chair next to me sitting down on it. "Oh my gosh! Really? I haven't been there, I have wonder what it's like. Is it like London? Do you have a queen? What's it like in..." A woman with a beautiful, soft American accent cut in, "Honey, Millie just got off the plane, please do me a favor and not ask so many questions she will be here long enough for you to ask in due time. Now go run along." She frowned and pouted and ran off. I looked to see who was interrupting. The woman must've been a goddess, she was absolutely gorgeous. Model gorgeous. Wait... "Sorry about my daughter, she can be a handful. Thank god she didn't offer you a flower." She shook her head, "Anywho, my name is..." "Aphrodite, right?" I finished her sentence. "Yes how'd you know?" "Well, your beauty is nothing like what I have seen even in magazines. So I only assumed, pardon my assumptions." "You are completely fine my darling, for someone so new to this you seem to be catching on quite well. Since our introductions are done, I was sent here to retrieve you and get you bathed and cleaned up to be seated before counsel tonight at dinner. What better person to fix you up than moi!" We laughed. "You are very accurate, thank you, I really do need a shower, I feel all sticky and my back needs warmth— it is killing me." "No matter, I will call in some people and they'll help you out." She looked over at a clock on the wall, looks like some things were modernized. "Dinner is in 5 hours, lets get you a snack first and then we'll get you your make over!"
